~ Sonic Mountain Climbing on the Dark Moon ~
1 channel audio, headphones, headphone stand, small amber reading light, heavy curtain, light fabric pod flanked with gauze, floor padding
Ver-donkere-manen (Dutch for To Dark Moon, meaning to hide, to swipe, to darken into obscurity) invited participants to enter a Sonic Pod behind a barrier of heavy fabric depicting a mystical being important to kodiCrone. Within, headphones looped an 18 minute sonic autistic aurally-led composition, Sonic Mountain Climbing on the Dark Moon. The privacy, enhanced by minimal lighting and the use of headphones, allowed those listening inside to see out while not being seen themselves. The research kodiCrone conducted around the piece demonstrated a vast majority of participants feeling calmer after being in the Pod, enhancing their perception of the gallery and the world around them.
Ver-donkere-manen was presented in Virginia Commonwealth’s University’s Seipel Gallery from November 7 through November 21, 2025 as part of the group show On Intersection by VCUArts graduate students in Kinetic Imaging in Richmond, VA.
