MEM~0R1

(short impression)

8 channel spatial audio realization, 2 channel video projection, an antique copper/brass bell which has been in kodiCrone's family over 100 years, original 1960s & 1980s photos, personal soft toys, original framed birth announcement, chalk

MEM~0R1 was created in an abandoned storage room. The piece, driven by a 14-minute spatial audio sound art piece, explored kodiCrone’s relation to sound while engaging with grief, the more-than-human, and the sanctity of the Spirit within. Inspired by the passing of kodiCrone’s animal companion, MEM~0R1 was an initial artistic exploration of kodiCrone’s autistic Being. The intimate dark setting, including chalked walls, invited audiences to reflect on their subconscious thought processes, represented by moving images on the empty storage racks, and the universality of personal history, represented by an antique familial bell, family photos and very personal soft toys.

This piece was created as a first year's Candidacy requirement for the VCUArts MFA program in Kinetic Imaging. Part of the group show 'Everything Must Go', which included 26 first year MFA students, the exhibit was staged in an abandoned JC Penney's in Henrico, VA, April-May 2025.
